Application Problem: Complex, high density p.c. (printed circuit) board to p.c. board connections is subjected to machine vibration. The problem is further complicated when there is a height deviation in the pin connectors of the adjoining boards. Permanent solder connections, which are typically used for high electrical load carrying needs, are usually specified. However, component disassembly and re-assembly is burdensome and often ends up requiring new board surface as well as high labor costs.
Innovative Solution: : The Tecknit solution is to mold a conductive elastomer in a series of individual tapered, bead shaped, contact points on either side of a carrier board to match the pitch spacing and conductivity requirements for the connection. The conductive rubber pads are isolated moldings formed through the carrier board to ensure electrical continuity from one side to the other. These conductive rubber connector board assemblies have been used in industrial ink jet printing heads for allowing flexible connections between contact points of interconnecting p.c. boards. Referred to as an "interposer", this type of connector can be used in various applications where low current carrying or grounding requirements exist similar to those of fuzz buttons. Typical bead size is .050" high and .080" dia. tapering down to .030" dia. at the head of the contact point with contact point density of up to approximately 100 per square inch.
Benefits:
The conductive
elastomer can be chosen from a variety of materials such as Consil-A,
Consil-II or NC-Consil.
The use of
such an assembly can accommodate for machine vibration and deviation in
height of the contact points of the mating connectors.
The gaskets can
be produced in high volume for commercial applications via injection
